Texas Republicans have seriously admitted they want to keep people stupid. Out to ban critical thinking in schools.

What? What!? No. What!?!?

No, seriously, these are people IN CHARGE stating openly that they want to ban the teaching of critical thinking.

I quote: “We oppose the teaching of Higher Order Thinking Skills (HOTS) (values clarification), critical thinking skills and similar programs that are simply a relabeling of Outcome-Based Education (OBE) (mastery learning) which focus on behavior modification and have the purpose of challenging the student’s fixed beliefs and undermining parental authority”

Fuck that! Fuck that with a rusty fucking bayonet! This is ignorance of the highest order!

Before I went off to university to study philosophy my aunt took me to one said and asked me if I wasn’t concerned about having my beliefs challenged in such a way. I resisted the temptation to openly laugh in her face and simply said, “If my beliefs can’t stand up to being challenged then what’s the point of having them?” To her credit, she understood what I was saying. Belief is worthless if it’s never challenged or questioned…and if you are afraid of having your beliefs challenged then it can only be because you know those beliefs to be untrue.

This is not just “ignorance of the highest order” it is the promotion of ignorance, it is the acceptance of ignorance as a desirable state of being. That can never, ever be a good thing. Ever. But, then we’re dealing with a religion that believes that man was cast out of paradise for “eating of the fruit of the tree of the knowledge of good and evil.” So perhaps they believe that by promoting ignorance we can once again attain paradise? And yet blind faith is no faith at all, and it was Kierkegaard who told us this, better than anyone…we must constantly test our beliefs, religious or otherwise, for only a belief that can stand up to the most rigorous of scrutiny is a belief worth having.

Let me just say: we actually had an excellent education system until Prick Perry got his hands on it. I know other idiot officials have to do with this, too, but things really started going down the shitter once he got involved.
